This work was inspired by accounts of the Last Supper. I decided to try to capture the shock and pain of an ordinary, accidental injury as an unexpected way to portray the humanity of Christ's bodily sacrifice. Artistically, the painting is inspired by Gentileschi's depiction of cloth, hands and blood, especially in 'Judith beheading Holofernes'. Only after I finished it did I realise the accidental visual echo of the extended finger of God in Michelangelo's 'The creation of Adam'.

Inspired by the still lives of Kurt Jackson, here are some of the paintings I have produced. They are based on my own photos, though I consider them to be studies as opposed to full works. Each took about 4 hours.

For this piece, I was drawn to Cezanne's use of perspective. Painted over the course of a year 7 open evening, it was a really exciting watching my dad's morning routine distill before me.
It was on display for the Royal Academy Young Artists Summer Show with the following description:
I have been undertaking a sequence of paintings that explore colour, composition, and subject. Although all three are very familiar to me in this scene (my dad does this every morning in our kitchen), when studied through painting, new colours and points of view come to life. I was inspired by the quiet domesticity of Vermeer's 'The Milkmaid' for the composition and subject. Where Vermeer gives a detailed presentation of the setting, I have presented the background as large blocks of colour. This was inspired by Picasso's Rose Period. In these paintings, Picasso focuses on the interaction between people, objects, and colour.
